Who I am

Who I am.

I'm Stuart. Coach, dad, and the bloke cheering you on across a field in Whickham on Monday and Wednesday nights.

In my early twenties, fresh into my first desk job, something clicked. Regularly stressed and sitting all day wasn't going to serve me well. So I walked into a gym and got hooked. It quickly became my outlet.

I've barely missed a week in 20 years. Not because I'm superhuman; because it gives back more than it takes. Energy, proper sleep, a clear head and a body that keeps up with my kids.

Why I coach

The best bit isn't what exercise did for me.

It's what it did to the people around me. Someone walks into their first CommFit class nervous about being judged, and a few weeks later they're a regular who drags a mate along. Around a third of my class members are there because a friend brought them; nobody was asked to do that.

I've seen people surprise themselves in that field. I've seen a first class end in happy tears. That feeling of watching someone realise exercise is for them; I want it a million more times.

So that's the mission. A million people, introduced to exercise in one form or another. A class, a session, a programme; if you start with me, you count.

How I think about performance

Train. Eat. Sleep. Repeat.

Train

Your body responds to how you train; it's the stimulus for change. Every plan is built for you, your capability and the kit you can get to.

Eat

Your body responds to what you eat; it's the fuel for change. Nutrition is personalised to your habits, your preferences and your goals.

Sleep

Your body responds to how you sleep; it's the time for change. We use your data, not guesswork, to make small changes that add up.

Repeat

Consistency wins. Daily, over decades. We build habits and discipline you can keep for the rest of your life.

The paperwork

Credentials, since you asked.

Qualified personal trainer. Qualified nutritionist. A certificate in executive coaching and a first class degree in Management.

I've competed in most things at least once: CrossFit, Hyrox, obstacle racing including Europe's Toughest Mudder, ultramarathons, Olympic lifting, powerlifting. I've been vegan, keto, fasted, bulked and cut, and learned something from every experiment that's made it into how I coach.

Before coaching I spent 20 years in consumer product businesses, working in nutrition at Weetabix and sleep at Tommee Tippee. These days I mostly use that experience to help businesses look after their teams; that story lives on the corporate page.
